Last week I had a few interviews and got my first assignment. Today, I actually moved to a new cube and started to work with my new team. At first I felt a little awkward. Everyone around were much older than I was. It’s a little intimidating but they’re nice for the most part. I haven’t met all of them yet. Today, they had me read some high-level documentation to prepare me for the low-level stuff. This might be a six-week assignment so I’ll be with them for a while and maybe longer if I decide that this is what I like to do.

I had a talk with Elaine yesterday. She finally called me back after a week or so without a peep. She was really mad at me. I started to suspect that she was mad or something after not getting any returned calls but I had no idea why. I feel really bad. More than a week ago, we had a similar talk and I guess I didn’t get how much it was bothering her. I think she rarely gets mad at me so I knew it was a big deal after yesterday.

Earlier today, I called my friend Eric, whom I worked with at the computer lab, and it turns out he lives only a few blocks from me. We met up downtown, walked around a little, and had dinner at a sushi place called Tokyo Lobby on Main St. After dinner, we walked back to my apartment and I gave him a little tour of it. It was nice seeing him again.

I just got back from the Cingular store trying to get a new phone but it didn’t happen. There’s always a huge line there. My parents are really angry about the bill for the last cycle. It was a lot. My dad says he’ll wait to see the next bill, with the upgrade plan, before he’ll decide if I should get my own plan or stay on his.
At work yesterday, my department had a BBQ at the park in San Ramon. It was really fun. I had my first veggie burger yesterday. =) My coworker kept bugging me to try one, so I finally gave in (and told him this is called peer pressure haha). It was pretty good though. There was a relay race which everyone was randomly put into a team for. I think it’s definitely weird seeing my superiors in casual clothes hehe. After the relay, I played volleyball for the first time in more than 6 years. I couldn’t serve it at all. =( And it hurt whenever I tried. I was ok when not serving though.
After work/BBQ, I went to best buy. I got a 20″ television and a PS2! =) The PS2 will be my form of DVD player. It’s the slim kind so I think I should get a fan for it so that it doesn’t overheat. I wonder if they make those. I think these are the last big things I’ll be buying in a while. I was planning my spendings and budget yesterday. I definitely need to spend less on things I don’t need haha.

Today, I had lunch with 3 of my teammates at the cafeteria. I had pizza and some chicken and potato salad. I think he over-charged me on the salad though. I should pay attention.
Earlier in the day, around 11am, I had an interview with three people from my department for an assignment. I need to review my C programming skills and unix. I’m not sure what’s happening but I think they’re going to put me on their team. I have another interview tomorrow. =/ I guess this one will be the one I will start in 3 months, after I finish the other one.
As of tomorrow, there will only be 2 out of 9 Matrex members left in the North Wing. =( I might be the only one left soon.

I’m experimenting with this new blog thing. I’m currently using this butterfly theme and I’ll probably keep it for a while. I decided not to design my own since I don’t have enough time to learn all of the web programming skills I need to achieve what I want. I’ll probably learn a lot of it at work so no worries. As of now, I need to learn Javascript, XML, and AJAX for work. =| That’s a lot of stuff. I have a javascript class in a week or so, so that’ll be good but the other stuff I pretty much have to learn on my own.
Getting used to working full-time is taking longer than I thought. After work today, I played ultimate frisbee with some people from work. It was pretty intense. When I got home, I noticed my shirt was completely soaked in sweat. Gross, right? We had two good games though. The first one, my team won (even though we were down one person), the second one we lost. I realized that one of my weaknesses is that I’m a sore loser. I hate admitting it but it’s something I want to change about myself. Competitiveness is a good thing though. =)
